In addition to the machines working on one or more batteries, Centurion also has two machines to be connected to the power. These machines are more powerful and flexible and with both, the hoofpad, for treatment of problems in the hoof and lower foot can be attached.

Centurion 4PH

This one comes with 4 leg wraps (spats), a body blanket, 2 Splitterboxes and a carry case. The 4PH is the most complete machine which makes treatment of the whole horse possible, concentrated on the place where it is needed. Leg wraps are used on legs or placed into the pockets of the blanket. For the treatment of the neck the leg wraps are attached to each other in the open position. The blanket is constructed of a heavy cotton twill for withstanding lots of wear and tear with pockets for the spats. The frequency can be set in 10 steps between 1 and 50 Hz. The intensity has 9 steps between 5 and 100 Gz. Time can vary between 1 and 99 minutes. This allows even more than the other machines to adapt the treatment to the individual situation.

Centurion 9PH

This is the smallest machine on power. The 9PH is more powerful than the battery operated machines, but is still light enough to take everywhere. The Centurion 9PH comes with two leg wraps, a splitterbox, a carry bag and a Mini Generator. The frequentie of the 9PH has 3 settings:
  • 2 hz for the acute stage of injury to reduce pain and inflammation
  • 15 hz to stimulate metabolism at cell level
  • 30 hz to improve blood flow

Hoofpad

The Hoofpad is specially designed for the horse to stand on, creating the best way to treat hoof and lower feet problems, such as navicular, fractures and all hoof problems. The Hoofpad is also very suitable to let the horse recover after a heavy training or competition or after a long drive in the trailer. It is made of a robust material that can withstand the daily use in the barn. In fact, it is so robust that we offer a unconditional warranty of 3 years. Also dogs can be treated with the hoofpad. The hoofpad is virtually indestructible and can easily be placed in a kennel.

Hockbooth

In addition to the normal spats, there is also a spat available, specially designed for the hock. This has a recess for the heel and flexible wraps which keeps them very well around the hock.

Example treatment: fractures

Treatment of fractures has been done with a lot of success with magnetic therapy, both in humans and animals. Even fractures that had long showned no sign of healing (non-unions) tend to respond to magnetic field by starting bone growth. Of course, treatment will be given in cooperation with the (animal) doctor or physiotherapist, but generally we recommend the following : The first three days treat only on the frequency of 2Hz, in case there is some kind of inflammation, but especially for habituation to the magnetic field. It may be that the treatment caused (severe) pain. Actually, this is only sometimes the case with treatment of (especially fresh) fractures. Try to las the treatment as long as possible (maximum 30 minutes), but stop when the pain is too severe or the animal reacts violently. After three days we go to the setting of 15 Hz provided that no heat in the affected area is present at the start of treatment. After again a period of 3 days we go to the setting of 30 Hz where we stay until the fracture is sufficiently recovered. The frequency of 30 Hz stimulates bone growth the most. Again, it remains very important to check for heat. With fractures it is recommended to treat at least an hour a day.
FPC de Hofstede has used the 4PH for some time to investigate the possibilities of using magnetic field therapy as one of the treatment methods: The equestrian facility Hofstede is a company based in Leusden, fully focused on the rehabilitation of horses. Hofstede. Daily there are two recognized horse veterinarians and a number of veterinary professionals present for the care of patients. The main spindle of the company is the equine aqua trainer. This is a conveyor belt in the water. The type of aqua trainer that the company use has infinitely variable speed control, the water level can be filled up till halfway the belly of the horse. It is a very effective way to create movements to ensure that horses with back problems can be functional again. It is also ideal for horses with tendon injuries can train unloaded. Besides horses with tendon and back problems there are on the company also patients with colic, wounds, or for fitness / sports coaching. Because we strive for the optimum care we are very happy with the 4PH. It is a versatile machine, we can use for horses with sore back muscles, but also for orthopedic problems.hofstede

Pastern plate (lig. Annulare) damage:

Meanwhile we have treated several patients with damage to the pastern plate. Treatment consisted of the complete cooling of the ball area with counter-pressure, two times daily one hour layer of pulsating magnetic field therapy and a rest or dosed walk regime, depending on the severity. In some patients the lesion was chronic, and difficult to heal both clinically (in terms of lameness) as on the image of the echo. Now we use the 4PH is striking that the recovery goes well and seems to go faster. In addition, it appears that the soreness of the area decreases, so we need less pain medication dosing. Most patients are now sound on the echo and are healthy back home at work.

Bone damages

The 4PH is used in different bone problems. One of these was a damage to the front of the talus. A nasty place, as a rough bone damage may cause irritation to the tendon that runs over here on the front. Upon arrival at the clinic the horse was clearly lame. On the X-ray a light dissolvement of the surface of the bone can be seen, along with new bone formation around it. This new bone formation has a rough surface when it is acute. Ultimately, these new formations will often be a little more rounded.
We have decided to treat this horse with the 4PH, together with a dose walk regimen. Also, this patient is monitored by means of X-ray. After less than two weeks of treatment there was a clear improvement. The lameness was gone. The zone of bone dissolvement had disappeared, and the new formation was slightly decreased in size and very clearly smoother and more rounded. Then the horse went home after the recommendation to proceed for a while with the magnetic therapy. Besides this specific problem, we use the 4HP also in horses with arthritis, or fractures. We will certainly not proclaim magnetic field therapy to be a kind of panacea, but after the results we have achieved so far, we think it is definitely a good addition to our current treatment protocol.

Laminitis

For laminitis horses we have as a veterinarien a devised protocol as a veterinarian. Firstly, we take care of the possible causes of the formation as much as possible. This can include adjusting the feeding, treating other underlying disorders, or scavenging of released toxins that can be released with certain infections. In addition, we lessen the pain as much as possible. We do this with the help of a very skilled orthopedic farrier, the provision of medication, and the removal of the heat by cooling down the feet as much as possible. For the latter we use a special device with ice. If the horse can walk a little, we can use our aqua trainer. The horse may stand there for a while with his feet in very cold water for cooling. Besides all these treatments we now use the Centurion Hoofpad. We have followed a patient during treatment by a thermography. A thermography is a heat picture, which can measure very precise the heat of a specific object or animal. In its evaluation, we look primarily to the symmetry of the images (eg the difference between two legs), where the hotter areas are visible (and which anatomic structures belong here) and the relationship with the problem. With the laminitis patient there was obviously a big hot spot to see at the front of the coronet band and at a large portion of the hoof. The difference was a few degrees. During treatment you can clearly see the magnetic coils of the hoofpad “light”. You can also see that the band of heat in the hoof was slowly decreasing, and the difference in degrees with the other hoof was getting smaller. Most striking was that the horse was every day walking better back to his stable after the treatment than on the road to treatment!. Also the first 3 times we were busy trying to get the horse to stand on the plate. After 3 times the horse did it on itself. On the basis of one patient, of course, it is difficult to say how well the hoofpad operates at overcome horses. Since the result in 1 animal was positive, we’d like to try more horses. voor na

User Experience

Despite strict feeding and pasture management my Shetland Rocky was in January 2010 hit by heavy laminitis. A strange time to become captivated, it froze gigantic, there was snow ... But according to the vets DAP Visdonk in Roosendaal, where Rocky went back for treatment, he was not the first pony they had seized in the clinic that month. Rocky was treated by farrier Rob van Nassau. After two weeks watching helplessly and hope it would go better, I met Arja, who I had known for some time, at the stallion show in Den Bosch. It was very bad that day with Rocky. I did my story and Arja told that she had no experience with the hoofpad with laminitis horses. Because she was very curious whether the therapy with the hoofpad also had effect in laminitis, I could use it as long as they did not need it. So I had the hoofpad a few days later and could initiate therapy. Initially it seemed Rocky don't like it to stand on the hoofpad for half. Despite the pain he had, he did not really stand still and sometimes he even off it. But after a few days it went better. Rocky got very easy on the hoofpad, remained patient and relaxed and stand there until the half hour was over. Meanwhile I had phased out the use of painkillers from the vet and the magnetic field therapy was the only "medicine" that he got. I have used the hoofpad daily for about a month. Specialwas that Rocky became after a week or three, four less and less patient and did not want to stand. In my eyes a sign that the pain had subsided. Of course I have no hard evidence that this is only the hoofpad, but I really think that the magnetic therapy has helped restore my pony. We are now over two years later, he walks - although still irons - better than ever ..
